Font licensing

From personal projects to global brands.
Choose the license that fits how you’ll use your fonts.

For Individual Users

Desktop

  • 1 individual user, including an individual freelancer.
  • Unlimited personal and commercial static design projects.
  • Permitted for print, packaging, labels, merchandise, editorial design, presentations, posters, advertising graphics and other static artwork.
  • Permitted for flattened digital artwork such as JPG, PNG and similar finished graphics.
  • Permitted for non-monetized social-media graphics.
  • Logo, wordmark, trademark and primary brand-identity use is not included.
  • Does not include Web, ePub, Digital Ad, App / Game or Broadcast use.
  • The Font Software may not be shared, resold, sublicensed or redistributed to clients or other third parties.

For Websites

Web

  • 1 website or primary domain.
  • Related subdomains, development environments and staging versions of the same website are included.
  • Permits embedding the Font Software as live website text using @font-face or equivalent browser technology.
  • Unlimited pageviews and visitors.
  • A separate Web license is required for each unrelated website or domain.
  • Does not include Desktop, Studio, ePub, Digital Ad, App / Game or Broadcast rights.
  • The Font Software must not be intentionally exposed as a downloadable or reusable asset.

For Studios & Agencies

Studio

  • Up to 10 authorized users within one studio, agency or business.
  • Unlimited personal and commercial static design projects.
  • Includes 1 logo, wordmark or brand-identity project for one client or brand.
  • Reasonable logo variations, lockups and adaptations belonging to the same identity are included.
  • Permitted for commercial, monetized and sponsored social-media artwork.
  • Final artwork may be delivered to the client, but the Font Software itself may not be transferred to the client.
  • Each additional unrelated logo or identity project requires another Studio license unless covered by Corporate.
  • Does not include Web, ePub, Digital Ad, App / Game or Broadcast rights.

For Electronic Publications

ePub

  • 1 electronic publication or title.
  • Permitted for an eBook, eMagazine, digital journal or comparable electronic publication.
  • Different electronic formats and revisions of substantially the same title are included.
  • Unlimited legitimate copies, downloads and readers of the licensed title.
  • A separate unrelated publication or title requires another ePub license.
  • Does not permit editable templates, websites, Digital Ads, apps, games, server-generated documents or redistribution of the Font Software.
  • A static PDF created under Desktop or Studio does not require an ePub license merely because it is delivered electronically. This license applies when the Font Software itself is embedded in a distributed electronic publication.

For Dynamic Advertising

Digital Ad

  • 1 digital advertising campaign.
  • Permits the Font Software to be embedded or loaded in HTML5, dynamic display, interactive or comparable digital advertising.
  • Unlimited impressions for the licensed campaign.
  • An advertising agency or production supplier may access the Font Software solely to create and deliver the licensed campaign.
  • Static advertisements do not require a Digital Ad license. Flattened JPG, PNG or other rendered advertising artwork uses the applicable Desktop, Studio or Corporate license.
  • Does not include normal website Web use, unrelated campaigns, apps, games, electronic publications, reusable advertising templates or redistribution of the Font Software.

For Apps & Games

App / Game

  • 1 application or game title.
  • Permits embedding the Font Software within the licensed application or game.
  • Versions of substantially the same application or game across different operating systems or platforms are included.
  • Unlimited legitimate users, installations and downloads of the licensed product.
  • Reasonable technical measures must be used to prevent extraction of the Font Software.
  • Does not permit unrelated applications or games, public font distribution, SaaS, online design generators, customer-operated typesetting systems or apps whose purpose gives users independent functional access to the Font Software.
  • The Font Software may not be redistributed with publicly accessible source code.

For Video & Broadcast

Broadcast

  • 1 audiovisual production, series, channel or advertising campaign.
  • Permitted for film, television, streaming, online video, motion graphics and audiovisual advertising.
  • Permitted for titles, captions, credits and other rendered visual elements.
  • Unlimited legitimate viewers, streams and broadcasts of the licensed production.
  • The Font Software itself may not be distributed to viewers.
  • A rendered video advertisement is Broadcast use. An HTML5 or dynamic advertisement that technically loads the Font Software is Digital Ad use.
  • Does not include unrelated productions, Web embedding, apps, games, editable templates or redistribution of the Font Software.

For Companies & Global Brands

Corporate

  • 1 company or brand · Worldwide.
  • Unlimited authorized internal users and computers for the licensed company or brand.
  • Unlimited static commercial design and logo or brand-identity projects for the licensed company or brand.
  • Includes Web, ePub, Digital Ad, App / Game and Broadcast rights for the licensed company or brand.
  • Includes commercial, monetized and sponsored social-media use.
  • Authorized agencies, developers, printers and production suppliers may access the Font Software solely while working for the licensed company or brand.
  • No pageview, impression, download or audience limits.
  • Suppliers receive no independent license and may not use the Font Software for other clients.
  • Corporate does not automatically cover unrelated companies, unrelated brands or independent third parties.

All Licenses

Uses not included

Unless Motokiwo gives prior written permission, no standard Motokiwo license permits:

  • Resale, sublicensing or redistribution of the Font Software.
  • Making the Font Software publicly downloadable.
  • Creation or distribution of derivative font software.
  • SaaS or server-based customer typesetting.
  • Online design generators or customer-operated design tools that provide functional access to the Font Software.
  • Customer-personalization systems that provide users with functional access to the Font Software.
  • OEM, operating-system or general device-font distribution.
  • Editable templates that provide third parties with functional access to the Font Software.
  • AI or machine-learning training, fine-tuning, model incorporation or font-generation datasets.
  • Any use not expressly granted by the purchased license.

Important

How to choose a license

Choose a license according to how the Font Software is used, not merely which file format is included with your download.

Possession of a particular font file format does not independently grant permission for website, publication, advertising, application, game or other embedding.

This License Guide summarizes Motokiwo’s standard licenses. The applicable End User License Agreement (EULA) contains the complete legal terms and controls if there is a conflict.
